Nikitin, Nikolai Nikolaevich. Born 27 July 1895 in
Petersburg. He graduated from Petrograd University in 1918 and
immediately joined the Red Army. In 1920 he met Gorky, who aided him in his literary career. In 1921, he joined up with the Serapion Brothers. His first work, Rvotnii Fort ("Vomit Fort") was published in 1922. The novel Prestupleniye Kirika Rudenko ("The Crime of Kirik Rudenko", 1927), was dedicated to the subject of socialist construction. Eto Nachalos' v Kokande ("It Began in Kokonda", 1939), touched upon the friendship of peoples. He won a State Prize in 1951 for his work Severnaya Avrora
("Northern Aurora", 1950), concerning the English-American intervention
in northern Russiain 1918 and 1919. Nikitin was also awared the Order
of the Workers Red Banner. He died in Leningrad on 26 March 1963. Source: Project Rubrik |
